Construction of a new softball complex on North Country Club road in Ada is expected to begin soon. Chickasaw Nation legislators passed a resolution authorizing construction of the facility at the request of Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby.
Gov. Anoatubby said he requested the resolution in response to requests from Chickasaw citizens.
“Several Chickasaws have requested facilities for athletics and activities,” said Governor Anoatubby. “In response to those requests, our development team designed a park that will provide a venue for everything from casual games and family reunions to organized tournament play.”
The new softball complex will include two adult softball fields and one youth field. Each of the fields will be lighted for night play and include bleachers, dugouts and warm up areas.
A central two story building will include concession area and restrooms on the ground floor and scorers booths on the second floor. Plans also include a half-court outdoor basketball court and playground area.
Plans are also underway to update the gymnasium located in the old Chickasaw Nation community center on the Chickasaw Nation headquarters campus on East Arlington in Ada.
The new softball complex and remodeled gymnasium will complement the tribe’s wellness center, which houses a gymnasium, walking track, weight room and aerobics room.
“It is important to have venues that meet the need for family-friendly activities as part of our comprehensive effort to promote healthy lifestyles and strong families,” said Gov. Anoatubby.
