What a great time it has been in the Chickasaw Nation!
As a result of Governor Anoatubby’s leadership and commitment to improving service quality and accessibility, new and renovated facilities were recently opened in Tishomingo. A new Head Start education building, senior site, community center, area office and youth club were dedicated. Governor Anoatubby stated that every service offered by the Chickasaw Nation in the Tishomingo area can be accessed on the new campus. He also stated that the campus still had some space for continued improvements announcing that soon, a walking track would be added. In addition, he announced that a nutrition services center would join the other buildings on campus in the future. A new child development center marked a significant update to the Ardmore campus. The new center created more than 60 new jobs focused on early childhood education.
In Sulphur, a new Head Start building is under construction and the Chickasaw Nation Youth Club has a brand new home, providing a safe place for Chickasaw kids to gather, work on homework, enjoy activities or socialize with friends.
April was marked by several milestones toward realizing Governor Anoatubby’s vision for a thriving tourism economy as a vital part of economic development. The opening of a new Chickasaw Nation Information Center in Tishomingo will shine a light on the many attractions throughout the historic region of the Chickasaw Nation.
A new pedestrian bridge in Sulphur links the Chickasaw Cultural Center and the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The Inkana (which means “friend” in Chickasaw)Bridge is designed to provide easier access between the two destinations and enhance the visitor experience for the hundreds of thousands of people who visit the area each year. Tourism is a vital part of the economy helping to spur activity for a variety of businesses from hotels, restaurants and convenience stores to antique shops, art galleries and farmers’ markets.
